Going Beyond the Wires

Enthusiastic third grade students vie for a chance to help Southwest TN EMC Forester, Chris Huntt, plant a beautiful Okame Cherry tree on the front lawn of West Chester Elementary School. The tree was donated by Southwest TN Electric in conjunction with the EnergyRight Solutions for Youth program and Love of Learning month.
Southwest TN Electric and TVA also brought a gift basket filled with supplies to use in the classroom. The purpose of Love of Learning month is to distribute resources to educators for teaching science in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. TVA and local power companies are reaching out to educators to share fully developed lesson plans complete with experiments, videos, games and other supplemental materials to aid in energy education for children across the Tennessee Valley. All of these lesson plans meet state standards for Science and most incorporate Common Core requirements for Language Arts, Reading & Math.
