Seasonal lightning strikes and electrical surges can cause extensive damage to your home’s appliances and electronics. There are steps you can take to prevent damage such as maintaining good grounds and utilizing protection equipment; however, powerful surges can still cause damage that is costly to repair.
Two options are available to Southwest Tennessee Electric members to protect their sensitive electronics from damage and their budgets from loss.
- A surge arrester, Surge TEC, is available for members wanting physical protection against over current at the service entrance. This device will be installed at the meter base by STEMC lineworkers. It is available for a one-time fee of $75 and can be paid in advance or added to the member’s account in three payments. The arrester provides no warranty against damage, only physical protection.
- For members wanting financial protection against damage, the Surge HELP (Home Electronics Loss Protection) program is available. The program provides customizable protection against financial loss resulting from surge damage. Members may choose the level of protection needed up to $5,000. The first $1,000 is just $4.95 per month, and each additional $1,000 in protection is $2.00 more. The program will pay the full repair or replacement cost of qualifying claims up to the protection limit chosen. There is no equipment to purchase or install. Surge HELP® is financial protection against electrical surge damage expenses for every appliance and electronic device in your home.
The Surge TEC surge arrestor and the Surge HELP program may be combined for comprehensive physical and financial protection.
