Warmer days can mean higher power use. Here are good ways to conserve energy, stay cool, and be budget-conscious!

• Set your thermostat between 75 - 78 degrees or a temperature that is both safe and comfortable.
• Use larger appliances like washers, dryers, and dishwashers after 8 p.m.
• Cool off with a small fan and set ceiling fans to counterclockwise to pull hot air up and keep air moving.
• Prepare your meals in microwaves or other small appliances, or use an outside grill to avoid heating up the house.

Energy Conservation Tips

  • Set your thermostat at 68° or lower when you're home. Every degree below 68° can save you money on your heating bills.
  • Wear layered clothing and thick socks to keep warm.
  • At bedtime, lower your thermostat and add extra blankets.
  • Close garage doors, cover foundation vents, and close off vents and doors to seldom-used rooms.
  • Keep curtains and blinds closed at night and on cloudy days; open curtains on sunny days for warmth.
  • Place rolled-up towels inside against bottom of exterior doors and window sills to block wintry drafts.
  • Adjust your water heater temperature to 120° or "warm." It still provides hot water and avoids scalding. You can lower it when not in use, too.
